Cuttack: A routine council meeting of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) was disrupted on Friday following chaos and uproarious scenes.
What began as a discussion on the Chief Minister’s Urban Development Scheme quickly escalated into a heated exchange of words, culminating in a dramatic walkout by the top functionaries. The dramatic scenes at the CMC meeting have exposed deep fissures within the civic
body.
The tension escalated following a heated confrontation between the Mayor and Congress corporator Janardhan Parida of Ward No. 58, leading to the abrupt adjournment of the session.
The uproar disrupted proceedings, with corporators shouting over one another and order breaking down completely. The altercation broke out when the corporator raised civic issues concerning his ward, resulting in sharp exchanges inside the council hall.
As efforts to restore order failed, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, CMC Commissioner, and senior officers walked out midway through the session. Their departure brought the meeting to an abrupt halt, leaving critical discussions unfinished.
The unexpected walkout has triggered serious concerns about administrative coordination within the CMC, and conflicts among corporators.
