Cuttack: Continuing its drive against the eateries serving unhygienic food, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Thursday sealed 3 hotels for operating without necessary permission.
According to sources, a food safety team from CMC, led by Health Officer Dr Satyabrata Mahapatra, inspected around 10 hotels between Seminary Chhak and Baropathar in Cuttack city. Of those hotels, three could not produce valid document and were found violating guidelines on hygiene and sanitation.
Mahapatra told the media that the team found serious lapses in hygienic practices and use of harmful ingredients like artificial colour in preparation of food items in these hotels. The spurious items have been seized and the hotels sealed, he added.
He further said the owners of the sealed hotels have been told to produce necessary document and after review, necessary action would be taken by the CMC.
It may be noted that the CMC launched a special drive to ensure healthy practices by the hotels and roadside eateries in the city on Wednesday. Its Food Safety team inspected sanitation facilities, food ingredients and hygienic methods of cooking in those places.
