Sambalpur: A coal tar pitch factory in the city was razed with properties worth lakhs of rupees destroyed late on Thursday night.
After the locals saw the fire initially in the factory located at Jayantpur Square late night, they informed the Fire Brigade. Since the tar is highly combustible, the fire spread to the entire plant even before the the Fire Brigade arrived.
Four teams of Fire personnel were engaged to douse the flame. But the fire was so intense that it was brought under control after four hours of sustained efforts by the personnel.
No casualty was reported in the incident till the report was filed.
