Paradip: The Coast Guard rescued 11 fishermen who were stranded in highly turbulent sea due to low pressure off Paradip coast on Sunday.
According to sources, 11 fishermen had left in their mechanised boat for fishing in deep water before the Met office issued a warning on the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast that the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into depression. Under its impact, the sea will remain turbulent and fishermen should not to venture into sea for fishing, the IMD advised.
While the fishermen tried to return from the deep sea after fishing, their trawler did not start. They were caught in high waves and the wind blowing in high speed. On knowing about the fishermen, the Fisheries department alerted the Coast Guard and sought their help.
The Coast Guard ship, Anmol, launched a search operation for the fishing boat and traced it. The Coast Guard personnel went to the spot and rescued all the fishermen. They also toed their boat to safety. The condition of the fishermen was stated to be normal.
