Puri: A huge cobra was rescued from a cowshed along with 13 eggs at Sanpur village under Pipili block in Odisha’s Puri district.
The massive reptile was rescued after a villager spotted it inside his cowshed. As the cobra disappeared after entering into a hole inside the structure, the village was unable to trace it and contacted Snake Helpline for assistance.
On being informed, a rescue team rushed to the village for immediate steps. Following a little digging work near the hole in which the snake had entered, the huge reptile was found together with 13 eggs.
Sources said the team promptly rescued the cobra and safely recovered its eggs. The rescue team ensured the safe relocation of both the mother cobra and her eggs. Following the discovery, the rescue team quickly acted to remove the cobra from the cowshed to ensure the safety of the reptile as well as the villagers.
As per locals, the team carefully took the mother cobra to a nearby forest and released it there. The snake resumed its natural life away from human habitation. Similarly, the 13 eggs were placed in artificial incubation conditions to help them develop safely.
After successful incubation, all the 13 cobra eggs hatched into healthy hatchlings. The baby cobras were later released into the forest, rejoining their mother.
Speaking on the incident, Snake Helpline general secretary Subhendu Mallik said people should remain vigilant and alert during the monsoon season hatchling activity takes place during this period.
Stating that monsoon rains create favourable conditions for hatching activity, he said the possibility of sighting snakes increases during this season. People should report any snake sightings to the appropriate authorities instead of taking action on their own, he added.
