Bhubaneswar: A sharp fall in night temperature triggered a cold wave in most parts of Odisha on Friday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Daringibadi in Kandhamal district recorded the lowest night temperature at 7°C. The mercury also dipped to single digit in Sonepur (8), Phulbani (8), Angul (8.6) and Titlagarh (9.5).
Besides, the night temperature remained under 15°C at 13 places —Balasore (13.9), Chandbali (14.3), Cuttack (12.8), Bhubaneswar (12.8), Jharsuguda (10.8), Keonjhar (11.8), Sambalpur (11.2), Sundargarh (11), Hirakud (14.1), Talcher (13.7), Bhawanipatna (12), Balangir (12.5) and Koraput (10.6).
In the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the night temperature fell by about 6 degree Celsius.
The IMD has predicted that the cold wave condition in the state will prevail for three days till December 8 after which there will be a rise in the night temperature with light rainfall at some places in the southern districts and moderate fog in some parts of coastal Odisha on December 9. However, the night temperature will gradually fall from December 14.
