Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha have come under the grip of intense cold wave with the night temperature falling to 15 Degree Celsius and below in 18 places on Wednesday.
While Sonepur continues to the coldest place with 8.8°C, Phulbani recorded 9°C followed by Angul (10), Daringbadi (10.5), Bhawanipatna (11.5), Keonjhar (12.2), Talcher (12.3), Baripada (12.5), Koraput (12.6), Jharsuguda (12.9), Sundargarh (13), Boudh (14), Balangir (14), Cuttack (14.2), Titlagarh (14.5), Sambalpur (14.6), Chandbali (14.6) and Bhubaneswar (15).
Talking to the media, director of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas said that the cyclonic storm ‘Burevi’ formed over the south-west Bay of Bengal is likely to move west-northwestwards and cross Sri Lanka coast today and emerge into the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area tomorrow morning. As the system will cross south Tamil Nadu coast around early morning on December 4, it will have no impact on Odisha.
“With the blowing of the cold wind from the Himalayan region, the cold wave condition in Odisha will intensify further and continue for the next 10 days till December 11,” Biswas added.
