Bhubaneswar: Odisha will be gripped by another cold wave in the next 48 hours and the condition will prevail till Monday (February 1), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday morning.

According to the forecast, the night temperature will fall by 3-4°C in the north and interior districts of Odisha and by 2-3°C in the rest of the state in the next three days.

The IMD has also issued a two-day yellow warning for dense fog in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Angul, Puri, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj on January 31 and Kandhamal, Boudh, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Bhadrak on February 1.

Besides, there will be light rainfall at one or two places in the district of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore for two days from Thursday night under the influence of a trough in easterlies from south Madhya Maharashtra to south Chhattisgarh across Marathwada and Vidarbha.

This will result in a sharp fall in the night temperature from Saturday, the IMD said.

According to the director of the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of SOA University and former director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, apart from a trough line, the wind blowing from the sea towards the surface under the influence of a high-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has enough moisture which will trigger light rainfall in the north interior and north coastal districts for two days.

Sahu further said that there will be another spell of cold wave in Odisha from February 7 with the formation of another trough on February 5
