Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday approved a proposal empowering district collectors to act as additional registrar of cooperative societies in their respective districts for proper management and supervision of the institutions.
The power has been vested on the collectors under provisions of Odisha Co-Operative Societies Act, 1962 and Odisha Cooperative SocietiesRules, 1965.
As cooperative societies have been playing a significant role in granting crop loans, paddy procurement,
supplying fertilizers and seeds, empowerment of collectors would go a long way in ensuring proper management of these societies at grassroots level like Ration Card Management System (RCMs), PACS, LAMPCS, SCS and FSCS, official sources said.
The district collectors will take action as per provisions of the cooperative laws, wherever needed, the sources added.
