Bhubaneswar: In the wake of unrest in Bangladesh, the Odisha government has directed the district authorities to take steps for the identification of infiltrators from that country, the state Assembly was informed on Monday.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi gave this information in the House while answering a question by MLA Bhaskar Madhei on the steps taken by the state government to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators in several parts of the state, including Kendrapada, Bhubaneswar and Puri.
The Chief Minister stated that the Collectors and SPs of all the districts have been directed to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators in their respective jurisdictions.
The directions have been issued with a focus on Kendrapada, Bhubaneswar and Puri district.
As per the data shared by the CM in the House, the total number of Bangladeshi infiltrators is 2 in Bargarh, 199 in Bhadrak, 1649 in Kendrapada, 17 in Bhubaneswar, 1112 in Jagatsinghpur, 655 in Malkangiri and 106 in Nabarangpur.
As per sources, the identification of Bangladeshi infiltrators would be conducted through a committee at block-tehsil and police station level.
Notably, the previous BJD government had informed that it had identified 3,740 Bangladeshi infiltrators who are staying in the state.
