Khurda: The principal of a degree college was allegedly assaulted by a lecturer, governing body president of the institute and others in his chamber in Odisha’s Khurda district on Wednesday.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place in the principal’s chamber at Haladia Degree College in Khurda. The incident was captured on CCTV camera.
Based on a complaint lodged at Khurda Industrial Police Station, an investigation has been launched into the incident.
As per the police complaint, college principal Umakant Patra was sitting in his chamber wearing a towel at around 8:30 on Wednesday morning. College governing body president Ranjan Kumar Bhanja, History lecturer Vijay Kumar Bhanj Deo along with some locals Rabi Narayan Bhanja Samanta, Pradipta Kumar Bhanja, Bhabani Prasad Patnaik and Srikant Kumar Bhanja entered the room and showed some papers.
The governing body chief asked the principal to leave the college campus, but Patra refused to move out of his chamber.
Thereafter, they allegedly dragged the principal and pushed him out of the room. Patra reportedly sustained injuries on his neck. The attackers left the site soon after the incident.
The incident was reported to have taken place in the presence of a peon and watchman of the college.
The entire scene was captured on CCTV cameras. After being informed, some local people rescued the principal and rushed him to the hospital.
After preliminary treatment, the principal went to the Industrial police station and lodged a written complaint.
The police have now started investigating the incident and examining the CCTV footage.
