Bhubaneswar: All government, private and deemed to be universities and colleges coming under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation limits will remain closed on September 17 in view of the launch event of Subhadra Yojana by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.

The Higher Education Department has issued a notification in this regard, addressed to principals of colleges and vice-chancellors of Universities in the city.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the flagship women welfare programme, Subhadra, at a special event at Janata Maidan on his birthday. He is scheduled to arrive in the city at 10.50 am.

Earlier, the Odisha government had declared holiday for all schools and colleges in the Bhubaneswar metropolitan area for PM Narendra Modi’s visit. “There will be a huge public meeting in Bhubaneswar. In view of this, the state government has decided that all the schools and colleges of Bhubaneswar will be completely closed on that day and the government offices will be closed for the first half of the day,” the notification said.

Government offices and magisterial courts within the BMC area will remain closed till 2 pm.

While a thick security blanket has been thrown around Janata Maidan with the deployment of over 50 platoons of police force and with around 150 officers are monitoring the arrangements, an eight-member SPG team is busy strategising security measures ahead of the PM’s visit. The entire route from the airport to Janata Maidan and the event ground has also been declared ‘No Drone Zone/No Flying Zone’.
