Puri: A whale, which was washed ashore Astarang beach in Odisha’s Puri district on Thursday evening, is suspected to have died following a collision with a ship or a trawler.
Some locals had spotted the carcass of a 30-feet whale and informed the staff of Astarang Forest Range, who arrived at the beach on Friday.
A postmortem was conducted after pulling the whale to the surface area of the beach with the help of a JCB machine.
“Since the lungs and heart of the whale had come out of its body, we suspect that it died following a collision with a ship or a trawler,” a Forest official told the media.
