Bhubaneswar: As many as 20 castes are likely to be included in the OBC list of the Odisha government on the basis of the recommendation of the Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes (OSCBC).
Revealing this to media persons in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, OSCBC member Mitali Chinara said the Commission has been conducting hearing of the petitions of the representatives of the castes which have been left out of the state OBC list.
After due consideration of their cases and detecting spelling errors in the names of the castes in the list, the OSCBC has recommended inclusion of 20 more castes so that the people belonging to those castes can get benefits of several welfare schemes of the government, she added.
It may be noted that the OSCBC had recommended inclusion of 20 more castes in the state list in 2021. According to the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), 200 castes of Odisha have been found mention in the OBC list.
