Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has busted an inter-state fake placement racket that was running at Kolathia under Khandagiri police limits here.
Six members of the fake placement agency were arrested from the spot.
The accused have been identified as Pramod Kumar Maharana (35) of Bolagarh in Khurda district, Chhittaranjan Moharana (30) of Khurda, Asgar Ali Sayeed of Thane in Maharashtra, Sajid Ali Maniyar (48) of Mumbai, Shaikh Nizamuddin Gazauddin of Mumbai and Mustak Mohammad Shaikh, a resident of Maharashtra.
The police also seized 75 passports of Republic of India, visiting cards of different tours and travels, 200 application forms with biodata and photographs, pan cards, voter identity cards and Aadhaar cards from their possession.
Receiving a tip-off from a local resident that the agency had arranged for an interview at a guest house at Kolathia, a police team raided the place and managed to nab these persons on Monday. About 250-300 youths were attending the interview, sources said.
The agency used to dupe job aspirants by luring them with attractive offers from Gulf countries.
The accused had engaged local youths from Odisha – Pramod Kumar Maharana and Chhittaranjan Maharana – to trap job seekers. They used to conduct fake placement drives across the country and collect Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 from each aspirant on the pretext of providing them jobs abroad, the sources added.
