Bhubaneswar: The Special Crime Unit of Commissionerate Police on Friday busted a ganja smuggling racket with the arrest of five youths including the mastermind, a BTech student from Bomikhal area of Bhubaneswar, Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Panda said.
The cops seized more than 130 kg ganja from possession of the mastermind identified as Pushpak Srichandan. Two among the accused are from Jankia in Khurda district, two from West Bengal and one belongs to Jajpur.
The gang used to procure ganja from Phiringia in Kandhamal district for Rs 3000 and sell it in West Bengal for Rs 8000. They had taken a house in Bomikhal area of Bhubaneswar on rent, which was used as a transit house, Panda said.
The gang was active from the last two months and earned several lakh rupees from ganja trade. They had bought expensive cars and also used hired vehicles to smuggle the contraband, the CP added.
The police have decided to take the mastermind on remand to unearth more information about the interstate ganja racket.
