Mysterious Death Of Woman: Man Who Received The Last Call Grilled By Bhubaneswar Police

Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police on Thursday detained one person from Nayagarh in connection with the mysterious death of a woman, identified as Subhashree Mohapatra, at Shastri Nagar in Odisha capital.

According to police sources, the deceased tried to contact him 7-8 times over phone between 6.30 pm and 6.49 pm on the day of the incident. The last call was made half an hour before she was found dead under mysterious circumstances and lasted for 27 seconds.

Subhashree’s husband also knew the detainee, who was questioned on those calls made to the deceased at Kharbela Nagar police station by the DCP, ACP and IIC for over 2 hours, the sources added.

While her mobile has been sent to State Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis of the call details, the cops are yet to receive the postmortem report. A case under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of IPC has been registered.

Sources further said that her family and house owner are also likely to be questioned and CCTV at Shastri Nagar would be thoroughly checked for any clues.

Subhashree was found dead in her house on Tuesday night. She was alone in her house as her husband was away and her son had gone to attend a tuition class. When her son returned home from tuition, he found Subhashree lying motionless on the floor. He informed his father, who reached home at around 7.30 pm.

“I found her unconscious with a mark on her neck and took her to the Capital Hospital. The doctors said that either she died by suicide or was strangled to death by someone,” said her husband Ananta Narayan Nath, who works with a private company in the city.

A preliminary investigation suggested that she might have been strangled to death.

“Yesterday, I visited my daughter’s house. In the evening, I got a call from my grandson telling me ‘my mother is not waking up’. I rushed to her place only to find her dead. She had no enmity with anyone. The culprit should be punished,” Subhasree’s mother said.
