Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has started ‘Jail Parade’ in the jails in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack from Sunday.
According to sources, the Commissionerate Police has introduced the system following reports of some accused persons with criminal records committing crimes after being released on bail or from inside the jails.
As per the system, the IIC and ASI of respective police stations will visit the jails and identify the inmates. They will also ascertain the offence of the accused. The jail authorities have been directed to cooperate and help the police officers in this regard.
During the visit of the police officers, the jail inmates will stand in a queue for the identification process. They will also verify the visitors who came to meet the inmates in the jail. The ‘Jail Parade’ will be carried out by the police officers every Sunday.
The exercise aims at preventing the reoccurrence of crime and bringing down crime graph in the twin cities, the sources said.
