Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police conducted raids at hotels and guest houses across Bhubaneswar to find if any criminal elements are staying in these places.
The special hotel checking operation was conducted late on Wednesday night as part of the safe city drive of Bhubaneswar UPD to see if anyone with suspicious activities have been accommodated, police said.
The special drive was significant as people coming from outside the state capital sometimes take shelter in hotels and carry out criminal activities, they said.
The objective was to physically verify the hotel occupancy and ensure no unwanted person was staying there.
Specially formed teams of police personnel conducted the raids during which hotel registers and relevant documents were thoroughly examined and scrutinised.
Raids were conducted in hotels and guest houses located in areas under Kharvela Nagar, Capital, Shaheed Nagar, Bharatpur, Laxmisagar, Badagada, Khandagiri, CSpur and Nayapally Police Stations.
Notably, the Commissionerate Police had also conducted raids at hotels in the past to crosscheck whether correct information, regarding the guests from and outside Odisha, is being provided on the SARAI app.
It is pertinent to mention that Commissionerate Police had launched the application around two years ago. It had been made mandatory for the hotels and lodges of Bhubaneswar where all details including guests’ information can be updated on a daily basis.
