Bhubaneswar: The Competent Authority, Kolkata has passed an order for forfeiture of the property worth Rs.1.32 crore of a ‘habitual drug trafficker’, seized by STF of Odisha Crime Branch.
The STF had seized brown sugar weighing 1.22 kg, a motorcycle and other incriminating materials from possession of Sk Jamsed of Haladipadia Basti under Laxmisagar police limits in Khordha district on February 20, 2022. Jamsed is a habitual drug trafficker having links with interstate and inter-district drug racket, an STF release said.
Following financial investigation, properties worth Rs.1.32 crore acquired by Jamsed out of illegal brown sugar business were identified and seized. A detailed proposal for confirmation of seizure/forfeiture of the properties was sent to the office of Competent Authority and Administrator of NDPS Act, Kolkata, as per provision of NDPS Act, 1985.
The Competent Authority passed the order for forfeiture of the seized properties including a three-storey building, plots and others. The properties were purchased from ill-gotten money of drug trafficking within last six years in his name as well as in the name of his mother Anima Bibi.
The Competent Authority is a quasi-judicial authority under NDPS Act to pass order for forfeiture of such illegally acquired property.
