Bhubaneswar: The Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Bhubaneswar, has filed a police complaint against Ola, Uber and Rapido companies for operating in Odisha capital and adjoining areas without licence.
Bikash Chandra Choudhury, RTO, Bhubaneswar-I, said that aggregators can use only transport vehicles. “They, however, are deliberately using non-transport two-wheelers (bike taxi) without any licence despite being instructed to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the state government. We have issued several notices to them and also held discussions even at the Commissioner level, but to no avail,” he said.
Different commercial vehicle associations in the city have also complained to the authorities against the aggregators for engaging private motorcycles in commercial activities, he said, adding that local auto association has threatened to go on strike over the issue on September 27.
“Written instruction were also issued to Sandip Kumar Choudhury (OLA), Deepak Palai (UBER), Lalajee Choudhury (RAPIDO) to strictly follow the guidelines. It is requested that stringent criminal action may be initiated against the aforementioned persons for creating frequent law & order situation through deliberate violation of MV law,” the complaint lodged at Saheed Nagar police station, read.
Sources said that police have sought all relevant documents from the RTO on this issue and would take action against online aggregator firms after examining those.
