Bhubaneswar: Police on Tuesday detained several Student Congress activists for hurling onion at the official residence of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain.
Protesting against the steep price hike, the activists wearing onions garlands and shouting slogans Piaja kilo Rs 150, apana mane khusi ta? (onion price is Rs 150 a kg. Are you happy?) took out a rally from the Congress Bhawan to the official residence of the minister.
However, they were stopped by the police near the residence of the minister. The activists later hurled onion at his residence. “We will continue our protest till the government takes steps to bring down the price of the onion,” they added.
