Balasore: The candidates of Congress and ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday filed their nomination papers for the byelection to Balasore Sadar Assembly constituency.
BJD candidate Swarup Kumar Das filed his nomination before the returning officer in the town. Party’s district president Rabindra Jena, observer Pratap Jena, senior leaders Samir Ranjan Dash, Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, and Debi Mishra accompanied him.
Similarly, Congress nominee Mamata Kundu filed her papers in the presence of senior party leaders Navajyoti Patnaik and Sudarshan Das.
BJP candidate Manas Kumar Dutta, son of former Balasore Sadar MLA late Madan Mohan Dutta, had filed his nomination on Wednesday.
The bypoll to the Assembly seat was necessitated as it had fallen vacant following the death of Madan Mohan Dutta in June.
The election is scheduled to be held on November 3.
