New Delhi: A red-faced BJP scrambled to control the damage after Bhubaneswar MP and party spokesperson Aparajita Sarangi, while targeting Karnataka Congress MLA KR Ramesh Kumar over his rape remarks, also criticised Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri.
Addressing the media at the BJP headquarters here, Sarangi said that Kageri — he is from the BJP — too should apologise for “laughing” at Kumar’s remarks.
Later, the BJP went into damage control, deleting the video of the press conference which went live. It then posted an edited version.
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and former Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore tried to defend the Speaker by saying that he made no comment. Sources said Sarangi later told party leaders that she was not aware that Karnataka has a BJP Speaker.
