Bhubaneswar: With the BJP all set to form government in Odisha for the first time, the Congress has warned the people against loot of the state’s natural resources by the saffron party.
Addressing the media in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, Odisha in-charge of Congress Ajoy Kumar said the BJP has a record of exploiting the natural resources, including forest, mines, mineral resources and water, in the states where it has come to power for its own benefits.
Stating that the saffron party has already depleted the natural resources in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, Kumar said it is now targeting Kalahandi, Sundargarh and Nabarangpur districts of Odisha.
The Congress leader thanked the people of Odisha for electing its 14 leaders to the Assembly in the just concluded elections. The good performance of the party across the country including Odisha showed the support for the Congress for its people-friendly policies.
“Though our MLAs will sit in the Opposition bench in the Assembly, we will continue to fight against exploitation of natural resources and innocent tribals in the state. Our leaders will raise their voice for the people’s rights inside Assembly and Parliament besides public fora,” Kumar said.
He also warned of price rise of essential commodities and unemployment crisis in the state after BJP assumes power. “The big corporates have already started coming to Odisha to have their share from its rich natural resources. But the Congress will not allow them to succeed in their nefarious designs,” he added.
