New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress officially confirmed their alliance for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The two political parties have disclosed their agreements on seat-sharing for Delhi, Haryana, Goa, and Gujarat.

The AAP will contest four of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, while the Congress will contest three seats, according to Congress general secretary and member of Parliament Mukul Wasnik.

Addressing a press conference, Wasnik said AAP will contest from New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi and East Delhi seats, while Congress candidates will fight Chandani Chowk, North East Delhi and North West Delhi constituencies.

In Gujarat, the grand old party will contest 24 of the 26 Lok Sabha seats, while AAP will field candidates in –Bharuch and Bhavnagar.

“The AAP and Congress have finalised the seat-sharing agreement. In Delhi, the AAP and Congress will contest on four and three seats, respectively. In Haryana, the AAP will contest one seat, while the Congress will contest on rest of the nine seats. In Gujarat, the AAP will contest on two seats, while the Congress will contest on rest of the seats,” said Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on the seat-sharing agreement.

While the Congress will go solo in Chandigarh, it will fight for two Lok Sabha seats in Goa.

No agreement on seat-sharing was declared for Punjab, where the governing AAP had previously stated its intention to contest all 13 Lok Sabha constituencies. Wasnik mentioned that while both AAP and Congress will participate using their individual symbols, they will jointly contest the Lok Sabha elections.

The arrangement regarding the seats has been announced to “fight the adverse challenges against Indian democracy”, the Congress leader said, adding that for the alliance, “country is important and not any party”.
