Bhubaneswar: In support of the nationwide strike by Congress against the action initiated by the Centre with regards to corruption charges against CBI director Alok Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana, the party activists staged a demonstration before the CBI office in Odisha capital on Friday.
Holding placards and shouting slogans against the Centre, hundreds of Congress workers led by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik took out a rally in the city and arrived at the CBI office.
Talking to mediapersons, Niranjan said as the CBI director Alok Verma was keen on probing the Rafale (fighter jet) deal, the Centre, in an attempt to hush up the issue, decided to remove him from his post and asked him to immediately go on an indefinite leave. “Under the BJP government, there is no justice in the country as it is indulging in rampant corruption and trying to impose Hitler’s rule,” he pointed out.
Talking about the CBI special director, Rakesh Asthana, he said the CBI official, who was in charge of the probe into the mega chit fund scam in Odisha, did nothing to provide justice to the people who had invested their money in the chit fund companies.
