Chitrakonda: Normal life was paralysed in Chitrakonda area of
Malkangiri district on Tuesday owing to a 12-hour bandh called by
district congress demanding immediate issuance of land pattas to the
tribal people.
Senior leader and former MP Pradip Majhi, who led a dharana staged by
the party activists in front of tehsil office, stated that we protest
the delay in issuance of land pattas and different certificates to the
tribals by the local tehsildar. Many local residents have applied for
land pattas since long, but they are yet to get it.
While shops, business establishments remained closed due to the
strike, vehicular movement also came to a grinding halt as party members
staged blockades by burning tyres at many places including roads
connecting Jeypore, Malkangiri and Andhra Pradesh.
