Kolkata: It seems Congress candidates in the ongoing elections are fatally jinxed. Two of them have succumbed to the coronavirus in as many days, though in different states.
If it was Ajit Mangaraj, who was set to contest for by-election to Odisha’s Pipili assembly constituency on Wednesday, another Congress candidate Rezaul Haque failed to beat the dreaded virus in West Bengal on Thursday.
Haque, who had been fielded by Congress from Samsherganj constituency in Murshidabad district, breathed his last on Thursday morning at a private hospital in Kolkata.
He had tested COVID positive a few days ago and was brought to the West Bengal capital for treatment after his condition deteriorated.
Voting in Samsherganj will be held on Saturday, the fifth out of eight phases of polling for the West Bengal Assembly.
