New Delhi: The Congress party has asked for the restoration of SPG security for Rahul Gandhi given the hostile environment created by controversial remarks against Gandhi by BJP leaders.
At a press conference in Shimla, AICC National spokesperson and Congress MLA Kuldeep Rathore criticised Union Minister Ravneet Bittu for his remarks against Rahul Gandhi, adding that it threatens his safety. He condemned the BJP’s attempts to create a hostile atmosphere against Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi and asked for SPG security for both leaders.
Reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about the religious rights of Sikhs, Bittu commented that Rahul Gandhi is a Pappu and “number one terrorist.”
“If those manufacturing bombs are supporting him (Gandhi), he is the number one terrorist. He does not love his country much because he goes abroad and says everything in a wrong way,” Bittu remarked on Tuesday.
In Maharashtra, the Congress held a protest on Thursday against recent threats and controversial remarks by BJP leaders against Rahul Gandhi. Senior leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the ruling party MP, MLA, and a Union minister threatened Gandhi, suggesting the BJP and its allies are scared.
“These should be taken seriously. Rahul Gandhi’s reputation and credibility have increased significantly both in India and abroad. He is the only leader in the country fighting against Narendra Modi and the RSS. He has become a major challenge for the BJP. This is why a scared BJP and its allies are continuously issuing threats to him. However, Rahul Gandhi is not afraid of such threats,” the Kerala MLA said.
