Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) would gherao block offices across the state on July 7 to protest against the insensitive attitude of the state and central governments towards farmers’ issues.
“Party members, accompanied by senior leaders, will stage demonstration before all the block offices for four hours (10 am to 2 pm) on July 7, to press for hike in minimum support price of paddy to Rs 3,000 per quintal and farm loan waiver,” OPCC president Prasad Harichandan said in a meeting on Friday.
On the other hand, farmers’ cell chief of the party Amiya Patnaik, who met Governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhawan this morning, said they would also launch a month-long protest over the issue on July 20, if the demands are not fulfilled at the earliest.
