Jaipur: As the Congress high command struggles to settle the Karnataka chief ministership issue amicably between the two adamant contenders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, there is no end to the embarrassment caused to the grand old party because of infighting in Rajasthan.
On Monday, Sachin Pilot gave chief minister Ashok Gehlot a 15-day deadline to act on corruption charges against the earlier government headed by BJP’s Vasundhara Raje.
If those demands are not met, Pilot threatened to launch statewide protests.
A five-day ‘Jan Sangharsh Yatra’ to protest against the Gehlot government’s inaction on alleged corruption cases of BJP government ended today.
“If our demands are not by the end of this month, then I will hold an ‘andolan’ with the public in the entire state… We have just fasted in a Gandhian way, if action isn’t taken on the corruption charges, we will take the agitation across the entire state. We will go to every village, every hamlet,” Pilot announced.
The two heavyweight state leaders have been at loggerheads since Pilot led a revolt against Gehlot in 2020, seeking a change in the leadership in Rajasthan. He was thereafter sacked from the deputy CM’s post.
Differences between Pilot and Gehlot have only deepened since then, leading to speculation that Pilot might leave the Congress.
Pilot, who has been slamming the Gehlot government regularly on the issue of corruption, had last month staged a one-day protest.
