New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s suspension from Lok Sabha is set to be revoked.
The House Privileges Committee adopted a resolution recommending revocation of suspension after Chowdhury appeared before it on Wednesday.
Once Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s office gets the recommendation, necessary action is expected to be taken ‘swiftly’, officials said.
The MP from West Bengal’s Berhampore was suspended on August 10, pending a probe, over alleged “gross and deliberate misconduct” during the debate on non-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi-headed Union government.
After the debate on no-confidence motion, Union Parliamentary Affairs minister Pralhad Joshi moved a resolution against Chowdhury. The Lok Sabha speaker deemed Chowdhury’s behaviour during the debate ‘inappropriate’.
Chowdhury said he did not intend to hurt anyone. He argued that if his comments were inappropriate, then they could have been expunged.
