Bhubaneswar: Veteran Congress leader and Odisha MLA Suresh Routray’s elder son Sidharth Routray, who is a well-known mountaineer, is likely to take a plunge into politics very soon.

After scaling many challenging summits as a mountaineer, Sidharth is now keen to scale new heights in politics. While his younger brother Manmath is set to contest the next elections from Jatni Assembly constituency, Sidharth is looking a new seat.

Sidharth also appears to be keeping his options open and is not averse to joining a political party which he will find suitable. Speaking to a news channel, he said he is also not averse to joining the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) as he has kept his doors open.

Stating that he is likely to contest from a remote place in Odisha, he said preparations for the next elections have already started. While Manmath will contest from Jatni Assembly segment, Sidharth said he will reveal the name of his constituency at a later stage and that his father will take final call. Their father represents Jatni constituency in the state Assembly at present.

It may be recalled that Manmath, younger son of Suresh Routray, quit his job as a pilot with Air India in June this year as a precursor to his new innings in politics. He has been doing the ground work for hitting the political turf.

After resigning as a pilot, Manmath had said that he has been helping his father in politics and constituency management for the last few years and gradually people of Jatni have started accepting him.

However, like his elder brother Manmath is yet to reveal which party he would join. He has made it clear he would follow his father’s footsteps and focus on Jatni.

It may be recalled here that Suresh Routray had earlier this year announced his younger son Manmath’s plan to join politics. He had said in February that Manmath will now make an entry into politics and contest the elections from Jatani Assembly constituency.
