Bhubaneswar: With the winter session of the Odisha Assembly slated to begin on Tuesday, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Narasingha Mishra on Monday sought permission to speak in Koshali language during proceedings of the House.
The senior Congress leader moved a proposal in this regard at the all-party meeting convened by Speaker Pramila Mallik in Bhubaneswar ahead of the winter session of the Assembly.
Speaking at the meeting, the Balangir MLA gave the proposal for allowing Koshali in the House. Members should be allowed to speak in Koshali language in the Assembly, he said.
The people of western Odisha often complain about the state government’s neglect towards Koshali and, therefore, the proposal was made by him, he told reporters after the meeting.
However, Speaker Pramila Mallik said it will not be possible to introduce Koshali during this session as there is no proper infrastructure in the Assembly for keeping record of members’ speech in Koshali. Arrangements for the purpose can be made in future, she said.
Government chief whip Prashant Muduli said that as per rules, members can speak in the languages recognised and approved by the Assembly.
