Bhuabneswar: The Congress on Tuesday appointed senior party leader and former Union Minister Bhakta Charan Das as the new Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president.
The All India Congress Committee, in a press release, said that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Das as the OPCC chief with immediate effect.
The post was lying vacant for the last seven months after Sarat Pattanayak and other office-bearers were removed on July 21 following the party’s miserable performance in the 2024 twin elections.
This came a day after several senior leaders of the state Congress left for New Delhi for a meeting with the central leadership in connection with the announcement of OPCC president and other office-bearers.
Sources said that the party was keen to settle the organisational matters before the start of budget session of the Odisha Assembly on February 13.
