Bhubaneswar: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge arrived in Bhubaneswar on Monday to address a public meeting ahead of the upcoming elections.
The meeting, Odisha Bachao Samavesh, has been organised by the party to mount a scathing attack on the Biju Janata Dal (BJD government in the state for its alleged misrule.
This is Kharge’s first visit to Odisha after taking over as the Congress chief in 2022.
Soon after arriving at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Kharge proceeded to the meeting venue, Lower PMG, in a rally.
According to OPCC president Sarat Pattanayak, people from panchayat, block and booth level have have come to the state capital to attend the meeting.
He said that the Congress chief is coming to show the way on how to defeat the BJD government, which is neck-deep in corruption with its 24-year rule in the state having witnessed mining, land and chit fund scams.
Stating that people are grappling with spiralling prices of essential commodities, he said 52% of the population of the state is still poor, while there are more than 10 lakh registered unemployed youths even as over 2 lakh posts are lying vacant in the government.
Congress workers are enthused by the visit of the party president, a common man who rose to a leadership position because of his sheer hard work and willpower. His address at the meeting is likely to motivate the party workers ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections, said the PCC chief.
