New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh is set to throw his hat in the ring for the party’s presidential election.
The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and ex-general secretary of the All India Congress Committee, will file his nomination on September 30, India Today reported quoting sources.
The names of Digvijaya Singh, KC Venugopal and Mallikarjun Kharge emerged as frontrunners after a question mark over Ashok Gehlot’s candidature following his faction’s revolt in Rajasthan Congress, anticipating Sachin Pilot’s ‘promotion’ as CM if Gehlot got the national role.
Gehlot is likely to meet interim president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi over his next course of action.
Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor is also in the race, having collected nomination form two days ago.
The AICC presidential election is scheduled on October 17.
