Congress To ‘Beg’ People, Adopt Leaders’ Accountability For Revival In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Congress, which has been struggling for revival in Odisha for last several years, announced plans to adopt accountability for leaders and to win people’s support for rejuvenating the party in the state.

During his maiden visit to Odisha after being appointed AICC’s in-charge for the state, Ajay Kumar Lallu, on Friday said the party would adopt accountability measures for leaders across all levels, from booth to state, to facilitate the party’s revival in the state.

Addressing a press meet together with newly-appointed Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das and other senior leaders, Lallu said both responsibility and accountability would be implemented to boost the party’s performance.

While holding detailed discussions with party leaders and workers, the state in-charge outlined substantial organisational modifications for the Congress in Odisha. He presented a detailed strategy to bolster the party’s influence in all spheres.

“Congress will activate its members and carry out regular evaluations of party activities at block, district, and state levels. Accountability will be fixed on leaders. Leaders will submit regular reports detailing their initiatives, membership campaigns, and community engagement programmes.

Local units will receive specific objectives for expanding party membership and organising grassroots activities,” Lallu said.

He said the party will have a feedback system enabling direct communication between ground-level workers and state leadership. This arrangement aims to tackle local concerns efficiently and ensure improved coordination across organisational levels. He indicated that consistent underperformers would face action, while high-achieving members would receive recognition. The party would also prioritise youth engagement and increase women’s involvement in political activities.

PCC chief Bhakta Das sought people’s support and donations for the revival of the party. “We need people’s support to strengthen our party. Unlike other parties, we do not have funds. We will beg people for their financial assistance. All movements in history were held with the participation of people,” Das said.
