Consolation Win: Series Lost, India Thump Bangladesh By 227 Runs In Final ODI

Chattogram: Their ego badly bruised after two narrow defeats in the first two ODIs against Bangladesh, Team India hit back hard to claim a massive consolation win in the final match of the series here on Saturday.

Powered by Ishan Kishan’s record-breaking 210 and Virat Kohli’s 44th ODI century – and 72nd in international cricket – India recorded a 227-run victory, their biggest in ODIs against any Test opposition.

The talk of the town, indeed the cricketing world, was young Kishan. Playing only his 10th ODI – that too because skipper Rohit Sharma was ruled out with a thumb injury – Kishan toyed with Bangladesh bowlers to stroke the fastest double century in 50-over cricket (126 balls), beating Chris Gayle’s record (138 balls).

Kohli played second fiddle as he helped himself to an ODI hundred after nearly three-and-a-half years to guide India to a massive 409/8.

It was too tall an order for Bangladesh and they folded up for 182 in 34 overs.

All six Indian bowlers got amongst the wickets, with Shardul Thakur bagging three wickets, and Axar Patel and Umran Malik claiming two each.

Brief scores: India 409/8 in 50 overs (Ishan Kishan 210, Virat Kohli 113; Washington Sundar 37; Shakib Al Hasan 2/68). Bangladesh 182 all out in 34 overs (Shakib 43; Shardul Thakur 3/30, Axar Patel 2/22, Umran Malik 2/43).

Result: India won by 227 runs.

Series: Bangladesh win 2-1.

Next fixture: India vs Bangladesh 1st Test from Dec 14 (Chattogram).
