Keonjhar: Body of a constable was found in a pond right in front of a police station at Nandipada in Odisha’s Koenjhar district under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Pradeep Nayak, was recently transferred from Keonjhar district headquarters to Nandipada police station. He was staying in the police barrack.
According to sources, Nayak had gone missing last evening. His colleagues searched for him, but failed to trace him.
However, his body was found floating in a pond located in front of the police station this morning.
On being informed about the incident, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and fished out the body.
Police have sent the body to Anandapur hospital for postmortem and launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of death.
Though the exact reason behind his death is yet to be ascertained, the death of the constable just a day after he resumed duty after leave has raised suspicion. Sources said Nayak had taken leave and gone to his village for five days. On his return, he had joined the duty yesterday.
