New Delhi: The Lok Sabha secretariat has asked Rahul Gandhi to respond to a breach of privilege notice by February 15.
The breach of privilege motion notice is related to the senior Congress leader’s remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament, reported Timesnownews.com.
Rahul had made a number of accusations against the Prime Minister and his relationship with beleaguered businessman Gautam Adani during his speech in Lok Sabha on February 7.
The day after, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and Union Parliamentary Affairs minister Pralhad Joshi filed a complaint alleging breach of privilege by Rahul. They requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to move a breach of privilege motion notice against the Congress MP.
They alleged that Rahul had stated “false, contemptuous, unparliamentary and misleading facts” against the PM during the discussion on Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in Lok Sabha.
In a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Joshi mentioned that under Rule 380, the “unparliamentary, dishonourable allegations” by Gandhi should be removed from the proceedings of the House.
The Speaker thereafter expunged 18 references made by Rahul Gandhi in the Parliament.
Dubey alleged that Rahul broke rules by “misleading the house” and made allegations of crony capitalism against Modi without providing documentary evidence.
