Bhubaneswar: With the rain continuing for the last two days due to a low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, normal life has been thrown out of gear in many parts of the state, while Dhenkanal, Bhadrak and Malkangiri districts face a flood-like situation.

Kamakhyanagar sub-division in Dhenkanal district was inundated as the district received heavy rainfall. Many kutcha houses were reportedly damaged and trees were uprooted blocking the roads.

Several roads and bridges were submerged under the rainwater. According to reports, rainwater was flowing four-five feet above Damasala bridge snapping road communication between Bhuban and Kamakhyanagar.

With Dhonei bridge under water, four villages in Bhuban block of the district have been cut off. Several parts of the block were flooded after Nilakanthapur culvert was washed away causing a 40-ft breach.

Bhadrak district also reported flood-like situation in many parts. The Block Educational Officer (BEO) in Dhamnagar block and Notified Council Area (NAC) office were flooded.  While farm fields were inundated, vehicular movement was hampered on many routes. Fire personnel were engaged in rescue operation after eight houses in Habib Nagar collapsed.

In Malkangiri, major rivers were in spate due to the continuous downpour. Traffic movement on many routes was also paralysed as rainwater was flowing over the roads.
