Nabarangpur: The process for appointment of junior teachers was stalled in Odisha’s Nabarangpur as the local aspirants against those outside the district on Saturday.
According to sources, the district education department officials were conducting the signing of job contract by selected candidates for junior teacher posts in Nabarangpur town.
Of total 860 candidates, selected for junior teacher posts in Nabarangpur district, the contract agreement of 478 candidates was completed on Friday, while the same process for the rest 382 candidates was going on.
Soon after the process started, some local aspirants for the job and members of several organisations reportedly stopped the aspirants from other districts on the way to the processing place near Mission Hall in the town. They told the candidates those belonging to the undivided Koraput district to go back.
They also staged a demonstration at the spot and allegedly tore the certificates of some ‘outsider’ candidates. As tension escalated in the area, the local administration informed police and the agreement process was stopped.
Speaking to the media, Arjuna Bhatara, one of the protesters and president of South Odisha Tribal Federation, said they were protesting the agreement process as the appointment had not been done district-wise.
On the other hand, Nabarangpur DEO Chhatrapati Sahu said they were doing their duty as per the directions of the government. But the memorandum submitted by the protesters has been received by the sub-collector and sent to the government.
