Bhubaneswar: Police on Monday rescued a contractor from Bhubaneswar two days after he was kidnapped near his house in the city.

Speaking to the press about the case, Bhubaneswar Zone-5 ACP, Sanjeev Satapathy said the contractor, Manoj Sethi, stays w


ith his family in VSS Nagar in the capital city. After Manoj went missing from near his house on Saturday, his wife had filed a complaint at Maitri Vihar police station.

“Manoj’s wife told the police that she had received a call from his mobile phone after he went missing. The caller told her that they had kidnapped her husband and demanded Rs 5 lakh as ransom to release him. They also threatened to kill Manoj if she did not pay the amount,” the ACP said.

After tracking Manoj’s mobile phone, a team from Maitri Vihar police station along with a special squad conducted a raid on a house at Gadakana. They rescued the contractor from the house and apprehended three persons who had allegedly kidnapped him, the ACP said.

The three kidnappers have been arrested while a manhunt has been launched to trace another kidnapper who managed to escape during the raid. Further investigation is on.
