Bhubaneswar: Police on Monday rescued a contractor from Bhubaneswar two days after he was kidnapped near his house in the city.
Speaking to the press about the case, Bhubaneswar Zone-5 ACP, Sanjeev Satapathy said the contractor, Manoj Sethi, stays with his family in VSS Nagar in the capital city. After Manoj went missing from near his house on Saturday, his wife had filed a complaint at Maitri Vihar police station.
“Manoj’s wife told the police that she had received a call from his mobile phone after he went missing. The caller told her that they had kidnapped her husband and demanded Rs 5 lakh as ransom to release him. They also threatened to kill Manoj if she did not pay the amount,” the ACP said.
After tracking Manoj’s mobile phone, a team from Maitri Vihar police station along with a special squad conducted a raid on a house at Gadakana. They rescued the contractor from the house and apprehended three persons who had allegedly kidnapped him, the ACP said.
The three kidnappers have been arrested while a manhunt has been launched to trace another kidnapper who managed to escape during the raid. Further investigation is on.
