Puri: Police rescued a kidnapped contractor and arrested six persons allegedly involved in the kidnap in the district on Friday.
According to sources, the contractor had filed a complaint at Chandanpur police station on February 9, alleging that Subas Swain of Batagaon village was demanding extortion money from him. The contractor is carrying out construction work of Gabakunda bridge in the district.
The following day, Prakash Swain of Piteipur also demanded 2% of the money for bridge contract as extortion money. After coming to know that the contractor had filed a police complaint, the miscreants kidnapped him on Thursday.
After the contractor’s family informed the police about his kidnap, the latter launched a manhunt for the contractor and his kidnappers. During a raid on Piteipur village on Friday, Chandanpur police rescued the contractor and arrested six persons on charge of his kidnap.
The police also seized a pistol, a shot gun, a sword, a mobile phone and two bikes from the possession of the accused. The arrested persons have been forwarded to the court, police sources said.
