Canberra: India posted a controversial 11-run win in the first T20 International against Australia here on Friday evening.
Ravindra Jadeja, who made a crucial unbeaten 44 off 23 balls, got a top edge on to his helmet off a short ball from Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc in the last over of the Indian innings.
ICC match referee David Boon allowed India to bring in leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as concussion substitute for Jadeja. Australian coach Justin Langer was furious as he didn’t agree with the match referee’s decision. He had an argument with Boon as well.
As it turned out, Chahal produced a wonderful Man-of-the-Match-winning performance of three for 25 in four overs.
Jadeja had earlier helped India reach a fighting total of 161 for 7 as the visitors plundered 46 runs in the last three overs.
Then Chahal and left-arm seamer T Natarajan bagged three wickets each to restrict Australia to 150 for 7.
India had lost the ODI series 1-2, and will be looking to return the compliment in the three-match T20I series.
