New Delhi: The students’ association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi was left red-faced after a Ramleela performance hurt religious sentiments.
With a clip of the offensive performance going viral and leading to widespread outrage, AIIMS Student Association issued an apology.
“A video clip of a Ramleela skit done by some students of AIIMS has been circulating on social media. We apologise for the conduct of this skit. It was not meant to hurt anybody’s sentiments. We will ensure that no such activity takes place in the future,” the students’ association posted on Twitter.
First-year MBBS student Soyeb Aftab hosted the show, according to reports.
The video shows Ravan’s sister Shurpanakha singing ‘Tu cheez badi hai mast mast’ while wooing Ram’s brother Lakshman in one scene.
Netizens saw the modern interpretation of Ramayana as an insult to Hindu religion.
Education app Unacademy, which reportedly sponsored the show, is yet to issue a statement on the controversy.
