Bengaluru: A Convent school teacher in Karnataka has paid the price for allegedly making derogatory comments on the Mahabharat, Ramayan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sister Prabha, who taught at St Gerosa English HR Primary School in Mangaluru, allegedly used cusswords for Lord Ram and the PM in a class on “work is worship” for Class VII students on February 8.
It led to an uproar and protests by a right-wing group, which also alleged that Sister Prabha taught students that Mahabharat and Ramayan were “imaginary.”
Not only has the school dismissed the teacher, she has been booked by Karnataka police, reported The Indian Express.
Besides police, the Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) is investigating the case.
The right-wing group, supported by BJP MLA Vedyas Kamath, claimed that the teacher spoke against PM Modi too, referring to the 2002 Godhra riots and Bilkis Bano gang-rape case.
In its complaint, the group said that the teacher is trying to “induce feelings of hatred in the minds of children.”
They have been holding protests since Saturday, with even the BJP MLA joining them.
“St Gerosa School has a history of 60 years and to date, no incident like this has happened. This unfortunate incident has created a temporary mistrust between us and our move will help rebuild this trust with your cooperation and we all work together for the better future of our students,” the school said.
