Sambalpur: The roof of a cooperative bank collapsed reportedly due to heavy rain in Odisha’s Sambalpur on Sunday.
According to sources, the city branch of Sambalpur District Central Cooperative (SDCC) Bank has been operating from a rented house at Kunjelpada. Since the building is very old, the bank officials face the problem of water leaking from walls and roof after a shower.
In rainy season, the problem worsens and the banking transactions have to be stopped. With water dropping from roof, the computers are covered with polythene sheets and cash counter at the front remains closed.
With the city experiencing heavy rain since Friday, the bank staff faced the similar problems for the last two days. On Sunday, the front portion of the roof of the building collapsed. However, nobody was injured in the incident as the bank was closed.
The sources said, the wooden beams and other materials used in the making of the roof had weakened over the years and its collapse was inevitable.
